Deleted Scenes...

SLRMI confess, I’m a writer who really learns her characters as I write them. That means that I tend to write scenes that are important to me, but perhaps not important to the story. This is one of those. :) This was once the opening scene of Scandalous Lord, Rebellious Miss. It sets up Sophie’s skills as a designer and shows how she ends up in London with Lady Dayle and the Lowders.

Looking back now, I can see that it is slow and clunky and not a good opening of a novel. But it helped me in my world building and in establishing characters.

Interestingly, it also contains a character that was ultimately cut from the book at my editor’s request. Lady Portia Ornesby was Lady Dayle’s very good friend and Emily Lowder’s mother, but I had to reduce the number of characters, so she went. I was sad at first, but I cheered myself by promising to use Portia as a character name again in the future. :)
