Welcome to my corner of the Historical Romance Easter Egg Hop!
Easter was a significant holiday in the Regency. Families dyed Easter Eggs then, just as we do now, although their dyes were all natural. Children had Easter Egg Rolls where they competed to see who could roll the eggs the farthest, or they had races to see who could get their egg across the finish line first.

Easter Dinner was a special meal, often with lamb or ham, and Hot Cross Buns were a well-known tradition.
Young ladies also looked forward to new spring dresses or bonnets at Easter, after the more somber colors and styles worn during Lent.
While you are here, feel free to browse my articles to learn about other historical holiday traditions, or head over to Deb Marlowe's Regency Kitchen to see me cook some historical recipes!

Dying Easter Eggs is such a fun tradition! It was much easier for us as kids, with our coloring kits, instead of using vegetables and spices, like they did back in the day! But now they have so many fun and different ways to color. Markers, shaving creams, dipping colors, rice. So many!
Have you tried the natural dyes like onion skins, cabbage, or paprika?
Or have you tried any unusual and fun modern methods?
Send me an email at [email protected] and share--and you'll be entered into a contest to win an autographed copy of The Lyon's Love Letters and some fun swag!
